Shawn Mendes proves that social media is the new way to get famous.
The 18-year-old singer shot to fame using only Vine and YouTube. All he’d do is record himself signing basic covers of songs, which amassed a huge response from fans all over the world. Can you imagine that one day you recorded yourself signing some Justin Timberlake and then… BAM… you’re viral?
Now he’s putting his fame to good use. He’s now an outspoken advocate for victims of abuse, as evidenced in his music.
Shawn says his family and friends keep him humble, even though he’s rising star on the music scene with his smash hit “Stitches,” his followup singles “Treat You Better” and “Mercy.” But now, we get to hear something a little different with his new song, “There’s Nothin’ Holdin Me Back.”
He wrote it, inspired by mid 2k songs that would be remixed by Timbaland. He wanted to create a song that would be used like that, and, man did he succeed!
