Today*s Star – John Mayer

He’s a fellow CT dude, born in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield! But, now he’s super famous and lives out in Montana.

John Mayer dis-enrolled from Berklee to pursue his music dreams and started up a band back in 1997 with Clay Cook. They named their band Lo-Fi, but the two broke things off and went their separate paths. Mayer played at several clubs and coffee houses until he gained enough of a following to perform at South by Southwest Festival in 2001. He then released two albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, which both went multi-platinum. He even won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Your Body Is a Wonderland.”

In 2010, he kinda withdrew from the limelight following a few controversies and had to go in for vocal cord surgery in 2013. But, now he’s back and doing what he loves. He’s playing with Bob Weir and plays for Dead & Company, a band he founded with includes three former Grateful Dead musicians.

He’s sold over 20 million albums and also developed a career in comedy and writing. Plus, he has a major watch collection.
