Kourtney Kardashian Meets with Congress to Advocate ‘Makeup Reform’

Okay, the only time I ever want to mention the Kardashians is when they use their evil powers for good.  Plus, I have a soft spot for Kourtney.

It’s no secret that America has extremely lax laws about what companies can put in their makeup.  The nation has some of the most relaxed chemical regulations in the world, too.  Let’s just say the FDA only regulates 11 chemicals and doesn’t mandate safety tests before a new product hits the shelf.

That’s why Kourtney teamed up with the Environmental Working Group to make makeup safer for its consumers.  She urged lawmakers to update an 80 year old FDA law that will make it harder for cosmetic companies to cut corners by using parabens and other toxic materials into their products.  She also urged lawmakers to make the process of making cosmetics more environmentally friendly.  She added that, as a mother, she wants to know what’s in the products she uses for her kids.

Kourtney rallied in support of a 2017 bill, called the Personal Care Product Safety Act, which was co-sponsored by Democrat Dianne Feinstein and Republican Susan Collins.  The legislation aims to restrict the amounts of toxic elements in cosmetics and for companies to be more transparent about their ingredients.
