Today*s Star – Katy Perry

Katy Perry is reportedly worth $125 MILLION. She also collected some amazing accolades in her career, with her 2010 album Teenage Dream becoming the first by a female artist to produce five number-one songs in the U.S.

Her follow-up album, Prism, made her the first female artist to reach 1 BILLION views on Vevo. She also became the most followed person on Twitter, too!

Now, she’s turning heads on American Idol as one of the celebrity judges. It’s fun watching her banter with Lionel Richie.

However, Katy’s start in music started in church when she was a choir girl. Her parents are apparently EXTREMELY religious, so when she tried doing things under her real name “Katie Hudson,” she produced a massively unsuccessful debut album in 2001 and was dropped by all her labels! Them in 2007, she signed with Colombia records and invented a new name for herself, Katy Perry.

There, she dropped her massive album “One of the Boys” which was more rock than pop, but still produced massive hits such as “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot & Cold.” Her parents definitely were NOT fans of that album because, well… it kickstarted rumors that she wasn’t straight and it caused a pretty massive controversy.

So, she really clarified that in her 2010 album “Teenage Dream,” which produced the killer singles “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T.”, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “The One That Got Away.” She then reissued the album and included the new smash hit singles “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake”.

As of 2012, she officially sold over 100 million albums globally. She is also the third best selling digital singles artist in the U.S. In 2013, she issued her subsequent album “Prism” which contained major hits “Roar” and “Dark Horse”.

Then, last year, she released her ‘purposeful pop’ album Witness, which brought her to new highs when her first single “Chained to the Rhythm”, broke the record for Spotify‘s most streamed track by a female artist within 24 hours upon its release.

In addition, she holds the record for most 5-million-selling singles in the United States. Needless to say, she’s one of the biggest artist of all time. Go Katy!
