Pharrell Williams is the man with a million titles. He is also a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer.
He is also the lead singer of a band called N*E*R*D, which he formed with his producer-friend Chad Hugo and his childhood pal, Shay Haley. With Hugo, he also runs the record production company The Neptunes.
But, we know him for his time on The Voice, his song “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke, and, of course, his song “Happy.”
Pharrell entered the music biz in 2006 with his debut album “In My Mind.” It shot to #3 on the Billboard Charts despite mixed reviews from critics. But, it’s the people he smartly collaborated with on his record release really boosted sales. He was known for producing Jay-Z’s “Frontin.” But, he also included Gwen Stafani (who was MASSIVE at the time) and Kanye West in his debut album, creating the songs “Can I Have It Like That” and “Number One.” His album also included Snoop Dogg and Nelly.
Then after a very long wait, he dropped in 2nd album in 2014, “Girl.” Again, he famously collaborated with major artists like Daft Punk, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, and JoJo for his follow-up record. Obviously, this record went to #1 … in 12 countries. The lead single? Yep, it was “Happy,” which became the top-selling song of 2014. It also won him a GRAMMY award!
Around that same time, Pharrell also collaborated with Robin Thicke for “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk for “Get Lucky.” Daft Punk also used his vocals for two of their other songs that achieved moderate success: “Fragments of Time” and “Lose Yourself to Dance.”
Following that, he became a judge on the 7th season of The Voice and, next season, his team won! Sawyer Fredericks won Season 8 of The Voice.
It’s no secret Pharrell is one of the most well-known names in the music industry. Everything he touches turns to gold and we cannot wait to see what plans he has up his sleeve!
