Today*s Star – Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is one of those few artists who exploded in popularity thanks to their debut album.

Ellie Goulding is the closest thing you’d see to a shooting star since her career never slowed down after she was discovered in 2009.  Jamie Lillywhite, who later became her manager and A&R, was first to discover her and ushered her into the recording studio to work with world renowned producers.  She released her extended EP, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, a little while later that contained hits that later showed up in her debut studio album, “Lights.”  While the UK EP contained her songs Under the Sheets and Roscoe, the American EP contained Lights.

But before she dropped her debut album, she already scooped up several awards such as a Brit Award and a Critics’ Choice Award.    After dropping “Lights,” the album, she reissued it under the name “Bright Lights.”  Lights, the single, later became her highest charting song to-date, reaching #2 on the Billboard Charts.

In 2012, she released her follow-up album, Halcyon, which she later renamed Halcyon Days and reissued it in 013.  It contained the hits “Burn” and “Need Your Love.”

Then, in 2015, she  dropped her third album, Delirium, which she did NOT reissue or repackage!  It contained her hits “Love Me Like You Do” and “On My Mind.”  The prior song earned her her first Grammy award, too!  She is taking a well-needed break since she never slowed down in nearly 10 years… but she’ll be back even better and stronger than ever.

Goulding has two brothers and two sisters.  Neither her mom, dad, or step-dad were into music, but she fell in love with it when she first started playing the clarinet at the age of 9.  When she turned 14, she taught herself how to play the guitar.  When she turned 15, she scored the role as “The Scarecrow” in her high school production of “The Wizard of Oz.”   But, she didn’t rest on her dreams of a music career, and instead pursued drama, politics, and English before she was introduced to electronic music.  There, Lillywhite discovered her at her local university talent contest.

Fun fact: Ellie is a big  runner and makes a point to jog 6 miles… A DAY.  She is also a vegan.
