OneRepublic are five guys from Colorado - Ryan Tedder, Zach Filkins, Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher and Brent Kutzle. They formed the band back in 2003, but didn't hit mainstream success until 2007. OneRepublic gives a lot of credit to MySpace for getting them recognition and keeping the band together. They were the #1 unsigned act on MySpace and people took notice. People like Timbaland for instance. OneRepublic became the first rock band to sign onto Timbaland's record label, Mosley Music Group. Their very first single Apologize, which Timbaland remixed, earned those guys a Grammy nomination.
Lead singer Ryan Tedder says they don't have a specific genre of music which they look to for inspiration. "If it's a good song or artist, whether rock, pop, indie, rock or hip hop, they've probably influenced us on some level.." They do admit however that The Beatles and U2 have been heavier influences for them at times.
They have 3 albums out, Native being their most recent. Ryan Tedder said this particular album feels the most like them then the others. "Native" brings back their notably optimistic pop anthems and takes them to the next level. Their single "Counting Stars" is blowing up on the airwaves! Love it? Check out the performance below!
