The Fray stems from Colorado and was formed in 2002 By Issac Slade (lead singer) and Joe King (guitarist). Unsure of what to call themselves as a group, the guys asked random people to think of band names and write ideas down. They randomly selected "the fray" from the pile and thus, their band name. The Fray obviously puts more effort into their songwriting as they have earned commercial success with their three studio albums. They have been well-liked by listeners since the start! The Fray's very first single, "Over My Head (Cable Car)"was an instant top 10 hit. The song was written about Issac's brother after he left the band.
Their second single, How To Save A Life was an even bigger hit and brought the guys worldwide fame! ABC used that song as their main advertising promotion for Grey's Anatomy in 2006. ------>Side note: Grey's fans, do you remember Season 7 when Callie was in a bad car accident and practically the entire cast sang that song while performing surgery?? Yeah, I may have teared up a little!
The Fray's success didn't stop there, their second and self-titled album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts and was certified gold in the U.S! Ever wonder some of their musical influences? Some of the best bands from the 90's: The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Better Than Ezra & U2.
Like their latest single, Love Don't Die? It will be on their upcoming album, Helios which comes out February 25th! If you can't wait until then, iTunes is letting you listen to the entire album for free now! I took a listen to a few songs and really enjoyed what I heard!
Below is a performance from our Acoustic Sessions with the Fray at the Orange Ale House. Enjoy!
