Today*s Star: Capital Cities

Capital Cities are Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian. They get asked a lot about how they met on Craigslist. The story is this: Sebu posted an ad looking for help with production, Ryan answered the ad and they started writing/producing jingles together that were later used for TV ads. The guys did this for three years to pay the bills, then decided it was time to start writing songs. That was when Capital Cities was formed!

In 2012 Ryan & Sebu signed with Capitol Records and released their debut album a year later. Personally the album (In A Tidal Wave of Mystery) is one of my favorites from this year. It's very fun and upbeat. Plus, the trumpet solos are awesome! They take pop songs to a new level. You will not be bored with this album, trust me! It's very indie/electro pop, but you can definitely hear jazz/funk influences with the basslines.

Capital Cities have already come to CT twice this year. They headlined at Toad's Place in New Haven, and teamed up with Fitz & the Tantrums for a show at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. If you went to either of these shows then you already know how amazing these guys are!

They are really mellow and laid-back in person, but don't be fooled- the guys bring their energy in concert! To sum up a Capital Cities show in two words: Dance Party! They also do fun covers throughout their shows like Madonna's "Holiday"! Below is their newest song, and if you love animals you'll like this video. Happy Friday!
