When they announced the 2014 Grammy Award nominations, Sara Bareilles thought someone was playing a cruel joke on her. The Blessed Unrest, her fourth album, was up for Album of the Year. She couldn't believe it and almost didn't believe it until her phone began ringing from friends and family members.
Sara Bareilles grew up in California. She was apart of her grade school’s choir and part of her college's a capella group. She actually taught herself how to play the piano and started performing at open mic nights after graduating from college. She was noticed in 2005 by Epic Records and signed a deal. In 2007, she released "Love Song" and it led to tremendous success, even making it to number 4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. “Love Song” also has a great story behind it. Sara Bareilles was encouraged by her label to write a love song as her first debut single. Experiencing frustration from the whole songwriting process, she just came out with this sassy musical response.
Three albums later, Sara is regarded as one of the most successful female musicians out there . In 2012, VH1 named her one of the "100 Greatest Women in Music". She just finished up her Little Black Dress tour in North America and is going to Europe this fall.
