When I first heard Meghan Trainor’s song “All About That Bass”, I thought who is this and what other songs does she have!? That’s because her hit song, “All About That Bass” is probably one of the catchiest songs I have ever heard. It’s upbeat, it makes you smile, and you just want to sing it all day long.
Meghan is also a pretty cool, down to earth woman. Born and raised on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, she started singing and song writing at a very early age, and her parents encouraged her natural talent. They bought her a computer for her to produce music on, and moved the family to Cape Cod so that they could attend a bigger school. Meghan made her success all on her own. She independently released several albums before the age of 17 and this caught the attention of producers in Nashville. She was hired as a songwriter right out of high school and wrote for a ton of people: Rascall Flatts, Hunter Hayes, and Hot Chelle Rae, just to name a few.
What makes Meghan’s musical talent so unique is that it is a blend of different cultures. Her uncle is a famous Caribbean musician and she was very influenced by R&B and soca music. You can definitely hear the influence when you listen to “All About That Bass” and her 2nd single, "Lips Are Moving". Both of the songs have great lyrics too. Very uplifting. So much so that Meghan’s fan base has grown overnight. They call themselves “Megatrons”. Meghan was just nominated for two Grammy Awards too, both for All About That Bass. Song of the year and Record of the Year. Those are probably the biggest awards of the night.
