René P. Fiechter JD LIMhas recently been named an"Outstanding Advocate and Children & Youth on Long Island"René Fiechter is one of the top individuals to receive the 2nd Annual OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARD on October 17th for outstanding civic and community support!  Help support  René in his goal to raise a minimum of $1,000 for this important fundraiser.Proceeds support the John J. Byrne Community Center of Uniondale's programs and services for the children and families of the region! Mr. Fiechter is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and has law degrees from both Hofstra University (JD) and New York University ( LLM criminal law).  He is a member of the Bar Association of Nassau County, is an Adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice at Nassau Community College, and a member of Molloy College’s Board of Advisors for the Criminal Justice Graduate program.  He has worked extensively in the fields of nonprofit and government management with specialties in criminal justice, treatment, and youth advocacy. Mr. Fiechter was a pioneer in the development of the New York-based EAC, Education Assistance Corporation.  He first developed its criminal justice programs and then its overall general management as Senior Associate Executive Director and Counsel.Under his watch, the agency grew from a staff of ten to a staff of 250 employees, built a budget of 13 million dollars, with 17 office sites throughout NYC and Long Island.  His team developed more than 40 programs which currently operate in the fields of education, women’s services, senior citizens, and, of course, criminal justice.  In pretrial services, René pioneered the first mediation programs, bail reform and pretrial services, women’s advocacy projects, and headed the development of New York’s TASC - Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime - programs.  His projects have won recognition from the Bar Association of Nassau County, the National Association of Counties, and the President of the United States. He was featured by Cablevision as one of Long Island’s twelve outstanding people who made a positive difference.He has served as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County for both District Attorneys Denis Dillon and Kathleen Rice. René developed and was Chief of the DA’s Rising Star community oriented prosecution programs where he led a team of community problem solving ADAs in high crime neighborhoods.  Mr. Fiechter expanded that work as Director of Community Affairs for District Attorney Kathleen M. Rice. Prosecution projects included the first suburban community court, alternative sentencing programs, jobs projects, raising million dollars for neighborhood partnerships, anti-gang programs, and the development of Nassau’s fully self-financed Community Service program.  He was Chair of the Long Island Amateur Boxing Coaches Association and currently  chairs the County’s Heroin Prevention Task Force, Long Island’s Youth Safety Coalition and, yes,  the County’s Bed Bug Task Force.Mr. Fiechter has an extensive history of volunteer work serving on the boards of numerous local, state, and national professional organizations.  He was President of New York’s Statewide Youth Advocacy agency and President of New York State’s Association of Pretrial Service Agencies.  He was the recipient of the Ennis J. Olgiati Award, given annually to one person in the state in recognition of a lifetime of achievement and outstanding dedication to the principles of justice and the integrity of pretrial services.  Nationally he was a founder and served as Chief Counsel of the National Association of TASC Agencies (Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime).  When personal tragedy struck, he became active in victim’s services and was Counsel to Parents of Murdered Children.
