Beverly Jameshas recently been named an"Outstanding Advocate and Children & Youth on Long Island"Beverly James is one of the top individuals to receive the 2nd Annual OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARD on October 17th for outstanding civic and community support!  Help support Beverly in her goal to raise a minimum of $1,000 for this important fundraiser.Proceeds support the John J. Byrne Community Center of Uniondale's programs and services for the children and families of the region! Ms. Beverly R. James has been a Public Health Nurse for over 30 years.  She received her BSN from Adelphi University and continued to pursue her education and went on to obtain the following certifications:  Certified Counselor in Psychiatry from Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in 1970 and Certified Nurse Practitioner from Downstate Medical Center in 1973. She is the President of Long Island Care At Home, Ltd. a home health care agency she and her business partner began in 1993. Ms. James is an educator and advocate and lives a fulfilling and active community life. She is a founding member of the Senior Umbrella Network of Nassau (SUNN) a senior citizen advocacy group.Served 12 years as a member of the Uniondale School Board holding positions such as President and Vice-PresidentServed on the Nassau-Suffolk School Board serving on its Finance CommitteeIs currently Chair of the Uniondale School District Audit CommitteeWas an engaged member of PTA at Walnut Street, Turtle Hook Middle School and Uniondale High SchoolServed as a board member of the Roosevelt Mental Health Center and Drug and Alcoholism Counseling and Treatment CenterCurrently a member of the Hempstead-Uniondale Rotary Club which has established a scholarship for graduating seniors and distributes dictionaries to 3rd grade students in both districts.Established the Albert W. James Memorial Scholarship in memory of her late husband to a graduating Uniondale senior.Ms. James is an engaged member of Historic St. George’s Episcopal Church, Hempstead and her activities there include:Serving as a Eucharistic MinisterDirector of the Altar GuildMember of the Vestry serving as Warden and Clerk of the VestryChairperson of the Scholarship Committee which provides scholarship to graduating seniorsMember of Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City Chapter BoardShe has received numerous awards including:Nurse of the Year by NYC Home Care CouncilHonorary Trustee of the Uniondale Community CouncilRecognized as a “Friend of Education” by NYSUTRecipient of the Jenkins Memorial Award from PTA for service to childrenRecognized for community service by the Uniondale Hispanic Civic Association Inc.Ms. James is widowed and the proud mother of Alisha James Graham, Eric James and their spouses Donald and Dawn.  A recent addition to the family is the arrival of her first grandchild, Arianna L. James.
