Title: Shifts Happen: How will Climate Change Affect Fish and Fisheries?
Recent studies have documented shifts in the geographic distribution of many marine fish stocks in response to warming water temperatures. In the Northeast US, over half of the stocks examined moved northward or to deeper depths to remain within their preferred temperature range. Similar trends have been observed in the North Sea, the west coast of the United States and even Long Island Sound. In the face of climate change, what does the future hold for fish, fishermen and consumers?
