Recent studies have documented shifts in the geographic distribution of many marine fish stocks in response to warming water temperatures. In the Northeast US, over half of the stocks examined moved northward or to deeper depths to remain within their preferred temperature range. Similar trends have been observed in the North Sea, the west coast of the United States and even Long Island Sound.
