The Metropolitan District (MDC) provides quality water supply, water pollution control, mapping, and household hazardous waste collection to eight member municipalities  and to portions of other towns in the region. Clean Water Project: MDC will expend more than $1 billion to improve the area’s water quality. The Clean Water Project includes three basic elements: reduction of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) with the Hartford central sewer system, elimination of sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) in the sanitary sewers of Wethersfield, West Hartford, Windsor, Rocky Hill and Newington and nitrogen reductions.
