Composer and pianist Piet Swerts will perform with WCSU music faculty Dr. Dan Goble, on saxophone, and Dr. Russell Hirshfield, on piano, at 8 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Swerts has conducted and performed as a soloist in venues in China, the U.S., Venezuela and France. A graduate of the Lemmens Institute in Belgium where he won numerous prizes, Swerts has written more than 200 compositions. He won the 1993 Queen Elizabeth Composition Prize for his violin concerto, "Zodiac." The CD of his clarinet quintet, Phaedra 92045, was honored by Radio Klara as the best Flemish music production of 2006, and also won the Belgian music press's 2007 Prize Snepvangers.
