Bastille: My new obsession. Bastille was formed in London in 2010 but is just now getting noticed here in the U.S. Bastille first started out as a solo project by Dan Smith. He came up with the name "Bastille" by discovering it was a celebrated event (Bastille Day) that fell on his birthday, July 14th.
When asked why he decided to ditch the solo act and form a band, Dan said he always had big things planned for Bastille. He never wanted to be just a singer/songwriter.. "People have certain expectations and possible judgements of solo singer/songwriters and it didn't appeal to me. I wanted to experiment with the sound... and being in a band is just much more fun."
I like Dan Smith already from listening to his interviews. Ladies, he's a guy who can admit he's a control freak. Love it! The band has been active in the business for only three years and I have a feeling they will be winning a couple Grammys next time around! Their debut album (Bad Blood) came out September of this year and critics are raving! Dan says he tries not to write too autobiographically because his interests lie with historical events. Their latest single Pompeii proves just that! The song is so fun and perfect for a "run playlist"! It booms with percussion and the very cool tribal chant throughout has me hooked! Listen to it below-hope you like as much as I do!
*Bastille is: Dan Smith, Chris Wood, Kyle Simmons & Will Farquarson
