The first time I heard "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers I was instantly hooked! Maybe it was the chanting feel to the song, or the fact that when I played it, a scene of friends hanging outside around a campfire came to mind. It was a sing-a-long. I love those kind of songs! The Lumineers' debut self-titled album is honestly one of the best albums to come out of the year 2012. Their story on how they met is pretty neat. Wesley & Jeremiah were childhood friends, and naturally started collaborating and writing songs together. They were trying to make it as artists in NYC, but that's not the easiest thing to do. Living expenses and not getting anywhere, the two guys made a decision to head to Denver.
The first thing they did when arriving in CO was put an ad in craigslist looking for a cellist. The first person to was respond was Neyla Pekarek-the third and final member of the band. The Lumineers have been compared to Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers. I think The Lumineers have their own sound -it's rustic with heart-on-sleeve lyrics.
**Fun fact about "Ho Hey," the group said the chanting of the ho hey's in the song were not going to be on the final recording of the track. It was something they incorporated into their live shows to get the audience into the song. The crowd must have been really receptive, because as you know, the ho hey's made the final cut, and it makes it more fun!
