RIHANNA’S INSTAGRAM SHOT GETS THAI POACHERS ARRESTED
Rihanna was monkeying around in Thailand…and it led to multiple arrests. While in Southeast Asia for her Diamonds World Tour, the pop star stopped in Phuket, Thailand for some fun in the sun. While there, she got familiar with the local flora and fauna- on Friday, she snapped a selfie with a monkey and posted it on Instagram with the caption “Look who was talkin dirty to me!” But while the singer is used to attracting attention for her racy photos, this one made the news for a different reason- the monkey (which was actually a slow loris) is a protected primate in Thailand, and harboring it is against the law. The photo eventually made its way to local authorities, who arrested two Thai men, aged 16 and 20, for using the slow loris as tourist bait. The poachers face up to four years behind bars and a $1300 fine.
TAYLOR SWIFT MEETS INJURED FAN
Taylor Swift upheld her rep as the nicest pop star in the music biz last weekend, when she met with a young fan who was injured at one of her concerts over the summer. Grace Markel, 7, of Columbia, MO, was walking into Swift’s concert in August when she was hit by a speeding SUV. Markel suffered multiple skull fractures and head lacerations, a severe concussion and road rash all over her face and body, and spent several days in the hospital. Markel is making a slow but steady recovery, and as a treat, her parents got her tickets to see Taylor Swift in Nashville last Saturday. To the family’s surprise, Swift invited them backstage before the show, where she greeted Markel by name, posted for photos and signed autographs. Markel’s mother, Amy, said the exchange was “warm and genuine” and that they “feel so very lucky and blessed."
BRITNEY’S VEGAS TICKET SALES ARE TANKING
Britney Spears’ upcoming two-year Las Vegas residency is apparently not off to a very good start. Ticket sales for the pop singer’s stage show, Britney: Piece of Me, have been dismal at best, industry insiders told RadarOnline.com. Everyone involved with the show is reportedly very worried. Spears has only sold out three of the first 16 shows running Dec. 27 through Feb. 22. “After spending hundreds of thousands on promo, they expected to instantly sell out all of the first 16 shows, but they didn’t come close!” a source told Radar. In comparison, Las Vegas residencies in the past such as Celine Dion and Shania Twain sold out their first block of shows immediately.
FIRST PART OF BBC’S KANYE INTERVIEW AIRS
Kanye West is known for his highly quotable interviews, and his latest sit-down with the UK’s BBC Radio 1 is no exception. The first installment of the four-part, in-depth interview aired yesterday and it contains some real gems. In a clip from the interview, Yeezy told DJ Zane Lowe that he’s “the biggest [rock star] of them all” and that his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy “could be considered perfect.” The remaining portions of the interview will air tonight, Wednesday and Thursday.
