Colbie Caillat is a singer-songwriter who grew up near the beaches in Malibu, CA. She can play piano and guitar and has been since she was a young teen. Colbie says she wasn't inspired until she turned eleven. That's when everything fell into place for Colbie. After seeing Lauryn Hill perform in the film Sister Act 2 Colbie wanted to start taking vocal lessons.
Colbie tried out for American Idol twice, and was rejected both times. She later has said that she's grateful she hadn't moved on to the next rounds. "I wasn't ready for it yet, I was shy and nervous."
2007 was a good year for Colbie, she released her debut album Coco and toured with the bands The Goo Goo Dolls & Lifehouse. That led her to be supporting act for John Mayer's summer tour in 2008. Coco gave us her chart-topping singles "Bubbly" and "Realize."
*Fun facts for 2008, Colbie recorded the song "Lucky" with Jason Mraz and she co-wrote and supplied background vocals to Taylor Swift's "Breathe."
In 2009 her second album Breakthrough was released. The hit single "Fallin' For You"was written after Colbie went on a date with longtime friend. She claims after that night she was falling hard for him.
Her new album comes out later this year and will feature her latest song "Hold On." Colbie co-wrote that song with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, and gives him credit for the upbeat pop sound on the album. Check out the interview below to get more info on Colbie's new sound!
