It almost seems as if The Lumineers got famous all at once, very fast. They had been playing bar gigs since 2005 as a duo called Wesley Jeremiah (the two prominent members of The Lumineers are named Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites)before their rise to stardom a couple years later. In 2011, their hit song “Ho Hey” was featured on a CW show. It then started to get played on radio stations across the country. People liked the folk-sounding rock song, and so when The Lumineers album came out in April 2012, it went straight to number 2 on the Billboard Charts.
I think “Ho Hey” is so successful because it strikes a chord with a lot of people. A relaxing love ballad, it was featured in numerous movies and commercials including the Academy award winning drama, Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.
This past May, The Lumineers was honored at the Broadcast Music, Inc. Awards. They won the award for Songwriter of the Year and BMI Pop Song of the Year for “Ho Hey”. The song also won the award for “Most Performed Song of the Year”.
