HGTV Scandal: Stop Renting out Our 'Fixer-Uppers!'

The masterminds behind HGTV's "Fixer Upper" aren't too happy about a recent turn of events.

About a dozen of the houses they renovated in Waco, Texas are being rented out or featured on AirBNB and, well, the Gaines' are MAD!  They say they feel a bit betrayed that the homes they worked so hard on are being used for profit.

Chip and Joanna Gaines help homebuyers pick out a delapidated house and breathe new life into it, inside and out, turning the property into the next forever home.

The two issued a statement: "We have no problems with out clients' interest in using sites like VRBO and Airbnb to rent out their homes. In fact, we get it. But we are going to be more strict with our contracts involving Fixer Upper clients moving forward. We want to honor our national viewing audience. We want to do remodels for clients' homes. That's the true intent of our show, and we want to ensure that does not get lost in the new vacation rental trend. What started off with perfectly understandable intentions could cast a shadow of doubt on the much bigger picture, and we are going to do our best to protect that moving forward."

Those who own the houses Chip and Joanna renovated say that the show caused too much attention from HGTV fans, a change in employment, or plans fell through.

Still, the Gaines' will be tweaking their screening a bit more to prevent anymore "destination rentals."
