ARE YOU A SHOPAHOLIC? TAKE THIS SIMPLE TEST

University professors have developed a simple test for you to take to determine if you may be a shopaholic. 1-in-20 Americans fit the compulsive buyer description. Men are just as likely as women. The test asks you to rate the following, based on a sliding scale of 1-to-7. Where one is never and 7 is often.

1. My closet has unopened shopping bags in it

2. Much of my life centers around buying things

3. I buy things I don’t need

4. I buy things I did not plan to buy

5. Others might consider me a “shopaholic”

6. I consider myself an impulse purchaser

If you earn a score higher than 25, you’re probably a “Shopaholic”. Or an even faster “Shopaholic” test is to check the balance on your credit card bill.

GAS GOUGING CONCERN IN CONNECTICUT

In the wake of Ike, there are concerns about gas gouging across the country and right here in Connecticut.

Major refineries in Ike's path were shutdown in Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. The result? Higher demand on fuel.

Triple A reports gas shot up ten cents Friday into Saturday and now state officials are aggressively monitoring gas prices over the next several days.

Governor Rell asked the Department of Consumer Protection to monitor prices and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says his office sent out investigators to check prices over the weekend and into the coming week to make sure prices stay fair.

If you suspect gouging call the state hotline at 1-800-824-2649.

RESOURCES FOR COPING WITH BULLYING

Helping our children cope with bullies can be a difficult task, but there are some excellent books available to help you through the process.

One of the leading authors on the subject is Jodee Blanco and she has written two books on the subject, "Please Stop Laughing at Me" which details how she was bullied all the way through high school, and how the traditional responses to bullying don't work or make things worse.

Her follow-up book "Please Stop Laughing at Us" is a resource to help the bullied one and his/her parents, as well as school teachers and administrators. Jodee has become one of the foremost campaigners to stop bullying today, speaking across the country.
