Trending This Week: The Kids Are Alright

First-  Cold War Kids

If you have even the slightest knowledge of alternative music, then you are probably well aware of the Californian indie rock band, Cold War Kids. They have been around for awhile-formed in 2004 and 2006 their debut album came out. Cold War Kids have been an alternative music mainstay since they first started playing and there is good reason for it: their music is really good. They have released 5 studio albums, 1 live album and numerous EP’s. One of their most famous songs is their 2007 hit: “Hang Me Up To Dry”.

Now they are experiencing some more mainstream success. Their latest single, First debuted at #1 on the alternative charts and #8 on the rock charts. Cold War Kids has a very unique sound, so I think it’s awesome people are starting to pay more attention to them. If you haven’t heard First yet, have a listen! It’s a great song and they will most likely perform it at our next Star 99.9 Michaels Jewelers Acoustic Session October 23rd.

What Do You Mean - Justin Bieber

Well, I know you know who Justin Bieber is (if you don’t, a quick google search will suffice). After years of teenage angst and rebellion, it seems like Justin is finally ready to put his big boy pants on and release some comeback music. What Do You Mean is the leading single off of his upcoming 4th album which will be released November 13th.

What Do You Mean is already putting Justin in a  more positive light. It was released at the end of August and went straight to number one in a lot of countries. The song then went on to dominate the charts in over 18 countries. If you watched the MTV Video Music Awards at the end of August, then you also saw Justin give an emotional performance of the hit - he even cried at the end!

So I guess the apologies and new focus is working for Justin Bieber. I think his next album will do very well if we base it off the performance of this latest hit. I think it’s catchy and I’m glad to see Justin work out his own troubles. At the end of the day, he prioritized his life back to music and I think it’s paying off (again).
