Perfect - One Direction

It is true that One Direction will be taking a break in 2016, but at least they gave us a new album before their very necessary musical hiatus. I say “very necessary” because One Direction has had a tumultuous couple of years. They were basically touring non stop for about 5 years and lost one of their members last year, Zayn Malik. These guys need some time for rest and relaxation.

Made In The A.M. is One Direction’s fifth studio album and the first one without Zayn.  The album sold very well; they were number one on the charts in the U.K. until Adele’s album 25 was released. “Drag Me Down” was the first single off of it and “Perfect” is the 2nd. I honestly like Perfect more than Drag Me Down. It really is a perfect boy band song- catchy and romantic with a bad boy edge, all wrapped up in strong vocals from hunky men. It is a very infectious song- you will be singing it all day once you hear it.

I also like Perfect because it has an air of mystery about it. Supposedly, the song is all about Harry Styles’ and Taylor Swift’s past relationship. One Direction has shot that rumor down, but you can’t help and wonder if they’re just trying to put out a media firestorm. The lyrics are suspicious- and it would be about time that one of Taylor’s ex’s responded with their OWN song. Have a listen, it’s a fun song.

Here- Alessia Cara

ANOTHER talented Canadian singer songwriter!? Canada certainly has some serious singers. The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Nelly Furtado, Shania Twain, Michael Buble & that’s just to name a FEW! Now we can add one more to the long list: Alessia Cara. She is only 19 years old but sounds way beyond her years.

“Here” is Alessia’s debut song and I was jamming out to it in my car from the very first moment I heard it. It’s not the traditional “uppity pop” song. It’s darker, and the lyrics are a little bit gritty, but it’s still VERY catchy. If you combine Lorde & Tove Lo, I feel like you would get Alessia Cara.  “Here” is all about a girl hanging out a house party, but not really wanting to be there, so if you love staying at home and “netflixing & chilling” then you will love this song.

Alessia is already making waves because of this debut hit. Rolling Stone Magazine put it at #20 on the “Top songs of 2015”, and that is a huge accomplishment for someone who just came onto the music scene.
