Music You Should Know - Time for a Makeover!

Miley Cyrus and Shawn Mendes are risking everything and making big changes in their career!

Miley Cyrus -  Malibu

Miley has sworn off weed and alcohol because she's cleaning up her act.  It's all for her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, who inspired her new song and new outlook in life.  "Malibu" was written in the back of the car taking her to her first day on 'The Voice.'  She says the song is a dedication of her love.

But we shouldn't be all that surprised that Miley has reinvented herself once again.  I mean, she's been doing it for 10 years now, and some say she's mastered the art of serial reinvention.  First she was the rebel, then she tried bubble pop, then got dirty with hip-hop, then she became a "happy hippie."  So, naturally, wearing lacy white numbers and growing out her hair seems like a natural next step.

And we can thank Liam Hemsworth for bringing her into this new chapter in her life.

It's pretty clear in the lyrics, too!

"I never would've believed you
If three years ago you told me I'd be here writing this song.
And I wanna thank you with all of my heart
It's a brand new start
A dream come true
In Malibu."

Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back

Shawn is also exploring a shift in his career, mostly for his music.  Honestly, he saw his music was following a simple formula and he wanted to branch away from that.  Sure, we love everything he comes out with, but even he knows that variety is the spice of life.

He told Entertainment Weekly:

“I wanted to make something that could play in the clubs. I wanted something people could dance to at parties. I realized I never had that."

As for the inspiration?  Remember Timbaland, who made a plethora of dance music in the early 2000's?  Yep, that's where Shawn Mendes took his cues.

"There was this empty space after the chorus, and I [imagined] this part, this sample that Timbaland would use. I ordered this guitalele, which is like a baby guitar with nylon strings that sounds like a ukelele. I went over to my buddy and was like, “I’m just going to play this.” It ended up sounding so badass."

As for what else Shawn has up his sleeves... it's more music and more tours.  Man, does this kid ever sleep?  Nope.  He's already working on his next album and is readying his next arena tour.

Shawn, slow down, man.  We love the new music, but we don't want you to burn out!  Please have Mercy on yourself!
