While some people take a wild road to fame, these guys worked super hard to get where they are today!

Robin Schulz (ft. James Blunt) - OK

Don't miss James Blunt at the next Star 99.9 Michael's Jewler's Acoustic Session on Friday!

One of the best DJs in the world, along with one of the most successful, has teamed up with the iconic James Blunt for a whirlwind of a song with catchy beats and fun lyrics.  Not only that, these two became immediate friends when working on this song, that's why it sounds the way it does.  Honest.

When asked about German DJ Robin Schulz, James Blunt ecstatically said:

“I’ve had many great nights in Ibiza clubs listening to the very talented Robin Schulz DJ’ing, so this collaboration is very exciting for me."

The feeling was totally mutual, too, with Schulz saying it was great working with Blunt.  Schulz also said this song was intended to be a perfect summer addition to our playlists.  And, honestly, it is.

The song is whimsical, fun, cool, and catchy as heck.  With Schulz's remixing skills paired with Blunt's unique vocals, you get a song that's unlike anything else out there. The two channel an Aviicii-like vibe which resonated extremely well with critics.  Most rated the song favorably with some calling it one of the best collaborations of 2017.

True, this song is a major departure from Blunt's 2004 hit, "You're Beautiful," but the exact concoction which made that song timeless is easily channeled into "OK."  So, safe to say we'll be hearing this song for years to come.

Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still

This band has been bopping around since 2004, and now it's their moment to shine.  And they're basically doing it the same way we found out about Mumford and Sons.  You see, they just broke their record took only six weeks to hit #1, making it the fastest rise for an artist's first chart-topper.  Besides tearing it up on Alternative charts, "Feel It Still" is beginning to make an impression on pop and top 40 charts, too!

So, it's only a matter of time before you start hearing this song everywhere.  And you should!  It's such a fun song to listen to.  It also makes you want to move your feet and tap the steering wheel.

Portugal. The Man really has no connection to Portugal or... really any warm company.  The band started in Alaska.  This is also one of the hardest working bands out there, so their success is definitely earned.

Lead singer John Gourley isn't exaggerating, either.

"Play 300 shows a year, record all of it and see what works and what doesn't: That was our 10,000 hours."

And that's on top of them working while sick because they love what they do!

It also helps that they're super connected with their fans and have built a strong relationship with them, which guarantees any artists survival in such a cutthroat industry.

Besides Gourley, the band consists of Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Jason Sechrist and Eric Howk. Gourley and Carothers met while they were in high school and played for a band Anatomy of a Ghost.

Obviously, that band broke up, but G and C had something and knew they couldn't let it go.

But, this is why high schoolers shouldn't name a band.  Because Portugal. The Man, they're not so fond of their name anymore... but it's too late now to change it.

"It’s an interesting name, I guess. It is kind of an alter ego like Ziggy Stardust and Sgt Pepper. It’s our character to represent us as a band. In picking a country’s name, it was one name that represents a group of people. It made sense for a while, but we have regretted it ever since that day."
