His name is Pierre. I adopted him about 5 months ago. He was originally rescued from an abusive home then went into a foster home for 4 months and got adjusted very quickly. Unfortunately his foster mom could not keep him because he did not get along well with her other pets.
When I adopted him and brought him home he was very scared. At one point I thought he might be sick and when I tried to get him into the pet carrier he scratched me pretty bad. The wound got infected and I ended up at the walk-in clinic to get a tetanus shot and an antibiotic. After the vet checked him out and gave him a clean bill of health I was asked by the agency I adopted him from if I wanted to give him back. They said they would completely understand if I did not want to keep him considering all we went through in such a short period of time. I guess most people would have thought this to be too much trouble to go through for just a cat and would have given him back. However, I chose to keep him. I felt giving him back and shuffling him to another home would have increased his fear. Not to mention none of this is his fault to begin with.
Once I got him home from the vet the upstairs bathroom became his little apartment. It took about 3 weeks and a lot of patience before he started to come around and let me pet him. Now 5 months later he is a loving kitty that likes to play hard. He also loves sleeping with me and likes to take up more than half the bed . He still won't sit on my lap or let me pick him up but I know with patience and a lot of love he will come around.
All-in-all, Pierre is a great kitty and wonderful companion to have. I am SO proud of him for all the progress he has made and continues to make in such a short period of time. He is perfect in every way and I would never even consider trading him in for another kitty.
