For over forty years the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, known as DAWS, has been devoted to promoting responsible pet guardianship and the humane treatment of animals. Dedicated to keeping homeless pets safe, happy and sheltered, DAWS is responsible for hundreds of successful adoptions every year. DAWS man programs, such as the Angel Pet Program, Low Cost Spay and Neuter Service, and their Trap, Neuter and Release Program provide invaluable services. DAWS is looking ahead to opening a new facility that will allow them to do even more of their wonderful work!
The Connecticut Humane Society was founded in 1881, making it the oldest animal welfare organization in Connecticut! CHS helps thousands of pets every year, envisioning a Connecticut “where each companion animal finds a permanent, compassionate home, where communities are enriched by the special bond between people and animals, and where animal cruelty no longer exists.” CHS is an independent non-profit organization and that relies solely on the generosity and support of donors and volunteers.
Pet Animal Welfare Society, known as PAWS rescues and re-homes more than 500 cats and dogs every year. PAWS began in 1962 and has continued to grow and expand, moving into their own facility in 2001. Their dedicated staff and volunteers provide shelter, medical care, and love to animals in need and work hard to find the right pet for each home and the right home for every pet.
Red Leash Rescue is a unique group devoted to adult and senior dog rescue. Their mission is to provide refuge, love and care to abandoned, surrendered or discarded dogs in our community. Red Leash Rescue works with animal control facilities across Fairfield County, taking in adult and senior dogs overlooked by adopters or who are having difficulty in a facility. RLR dogs fostered in private homes where they recover from their experience in shelters or neglect and If any health concerns exist, they are addressed with trusted veterinary partners Each dog is lovingly cared for, trained as needed and prepared for successful placement in a permanent home. RLR’s goal is to add a “Home” for Adult/Senior dogs to their foster network. Adopters will be able to interact with available dogs in a home setting and those adult and seniors unable to be adopted will have the opportunity to live the remainder of their lives as part of a pack, cherished and cared for until their natural end.
