Brits may approve new breast cancer test

A test that predicts whether breast cancer will return after surgery could soon be routine for women in the UK, according to a published report.

British health authorities will meet next month to decide if they will cover the cost of the test, which estimates whether the most common type of breast cancer is likely to recur after surgery.

The test, called IHC4, costs a fraction of the only other existing test  -- Oncotype DX -- which is available only outside the United States.

Researchers say as many as 8,000 British women might avoid unnecessary chemotherapy after surgery because of the test.
