Hot Holiday Item: Kindle Fire

It seemed for a while that no other company could launch a serious contender for Apple's iPad in the tablet computer market, but that all changed yesterday. Amazon.com introduced the Kindle Fire yesterday, a tablet with a seven-inch screen that can stream movies and TV shows and links with Amazon's app store.

And the smaller tablet will have a much lower price, $199 compared to the lowest-cost iPad at $499.

<p>Amazon.com chief executive Jeff Bezos said, "We asked ourselves, 'Is there some way we can bring all of these things together [web, movies, apps, book and games] into a remarkable product offering customers would love?' Yes, the answer is Amazon Kindle Fire."
