Worldwide Wednesday: This Weeks Web Picks

IWATCH BRIDGEPORT APP

An app called i Watch Bridgeport is helping the police department solve crimes.

Bridgeport got the app that's available on all smartphones last year.

So far, Bridgeport is the only city in the state to have it, and at a cost of $10,000 police said it's already paying dividends.

"We had a murder on New Year's Day, and in less than 12 hours we got pertinent information on that murder," said Bridgeport Police Lt. David Daniel.

Some 600 people have downloaded the free app so far, and after a 3-year-old was caught in the crossfire of a gang war earlier this month, police are leaning on the app now more than ever.

"In the past they wouldn't say anything for fear of reprisal or even get involved, but this takes away all of that because you do it anonymously," Daniels said.

New Haven, Milford and Naugatuck police will roll theirs out it in the coming weeks. (Source: WFSB)

NET PLENISH

Want to save money on the stuff you buy all the time?  Stuff like laundry detergent, toilet paper and paper towels?

The NetPlenish app lets you scan items in your home that you purchase repeatedly. When it's time to restock, simply select those items off the list.

Taking current promotions, shipping, and tax into account, NetPlenish calculates the best price on that combination of items from a variety or sites including Soap.com, Target, Sephora, and more.

Once you submit the order, all those participating merchants actually vie for your business, meaning the price you end up paying is often less than the quoted amount.

CHINTZEE

Prevent buyer’s remorse with Chintzee, a site that lets you monitor Amazon price changes and sends you an alert when a price goes down. From big-ticket items like LCD TVs to less-pricey items like clothes, you’re sure to get the best deal.

TRUCK SPILLS

Check out pics of some of the more unusual things that have fallen off trucks on America's highways!  It's TruckSpills.com!
