Today is the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 2001.  If you're looking for a way to commemorate this somber occasion, here are some events happening in CT and NYC.

NEW YORK CITY

As always, four moments of silence will be observed to commemorate the times when each plane hit and each tower fell, starting at 8:46 a.m.

At sunset, the famous "Tribute in Light" will return to the skies above New York City for the night.  The illuminated memorial reaches four miles into the sky and is visible from as far as 30 miles away. The two arrays cast the strongest shaft of light ever projected from Earth into the night sky.

CONNECTICUT

Sherwood Island State Park in Westport has a permanent 9-11 Memorial. There's a black cherry tree and a low granite monument that on a clear day overlooks the city sky-line . Very simple but poignant. A nice place to reflect and remember the somber anniversary. Parking fees to the public are waived on September 11. On 9/10 at 5:30 the public is invited to a ceremony remembering all of the CT residents who perished that day. (Source: MommyPoppins.com

GIVE BLOOD

Another great way to pay tribute is to either give blood, or at least sign up to make a donation.  Click here for the Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross
