MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Can Hurricane names be used more than once?

Hurricane Ian making landfall down in Florida today. Wishing everyone down there the best and to be safe.

The current list of hurricane names are used in alphabetical order each year, once a storm is named the name can’t be used again for 6 years. Then it can get recycled. If the storm is really severe the nation who was impacted can lobby to the World Meteorological Organization to get the name to be retired

Since 1950 when they started naming storms 94 hurricanes have had their names retired. Including Sandy and Irene the two big ones that hit around here.
