TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: A very unique Valentine’s Day World Record has been set

Maybe you celebrated Valentine’s Day with a nice homemade dinner, or went out to a fancy restaurant, maybe a movie date night, but I’m guessing you didn’t spend it like this one couple did… breaking a world record.

A South African woman and a Canadian man traveled all the way to the Maldives for an attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for “longest underwater kiss”. 4 minutes 6 seconds! That’s a LONG time underwater.

If you think you can beat them… maybe that can be your Valentine’s Day plan for next year.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Is it really cheese on Cheetos? The story behind Cheetos is fascinating

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Is it really cheese on Cheetos? The story behind Cheetos is fascinating

If you love Cheetos I’m about to blow your mind.

Did you know that Cheetos would’ve never existed without the U.S. military? Back during World War II they needed a good way to ship and store cheese. At the time there was a USDA scientist who invented that cheese powder we all know and love. So that’s what they used.

Once the war ended all different manufacturers were looking for ways to use this new cheese product. The Frito Company ended up buying all the leftover powder and invented various products to use it with. Cheetos were the first one they came up with. The rest is history.

Fascinating.

THE FEED: Coolest Places To Grab A Drink With Your Girls

THE FEED: Coolest Places To Grab A Drink With Your Girls

Every Tuesday Kevin talks all things food with Alex from CT FoodGirly about all things food related in Connecticut. In celebration of Valentine’s Day we talked about some of the coolest places in the state to grab a drink after dinner with your date or your gals.

ALEX’S PICKS:

Ordinary – New Haven: There is a very cozy bar, giving a speakeasy vibe, called Ordinary in New Haven. They have amazing signature drinks and knowledgable bartenders. They offer snacks, sandwiches, and sweets to share, which is great for this holiday. They have a long list of classic cocktails, a full list of their own signature cocktails, and their own private barrel selection too. Ordinary also has non-alcoholic beverages, which is a nice touch too.

Also in New Haven is Oak Haven Table & Bar. I was here last Wednesday night, checking out their outside bubble. We had an amazing dinner and it was so nice to be outside in the bubble with a heater. Oak Haven is a classy gastropub with a farm-to-table menu. Perfect spot for any after dinner drinks or dinner and some fun cocktails with friends!

In Branford, there is Pearl Wine Bar, this has been one of my new go-to spots. They have an ever-changing menu, filled with fresh salads, seasonal shared plates and really delicious desserts. I love the crafted cocktail menu at Pearl, the spicy strawberry margarita is great and their is something for everyone with Pearls small plate selection. The burger and hot honey chicken are both really nice. Definitely make a reservation for Pearl, it’s a cozy bar with a beautiful interior and perfect for after dinner drinks or a cute galentines night.

Another one of my new favorite spots is the newly opened 88 Keys Piano Bar in Watertown. This is an upscale bar with live music, great shareable dishes, crafted cocktails, and delicious desserts. I think if my girls were in town, I would have us pop into 88 Keys together.

Lastly, there is Sips Wine Bar in Old Saybrook. This is a great spot for discovering new wines around the world. I love it here because they offer a huge array of wines that change constantly. Sips Wine Bar also offers Cheese and Charcuterie boards with a huge selection to pair with your wines.

It’s also gorgeous inside, but on the smaller side so make a reservation here if you can!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Student putting a golf ball on a basketball court leads to new car!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Student putting a golf ball on a basketball court leads to new car!

I’m admittedly a sucker for any videos of people winning contest during sporting events. Half court shots, kicking field goals, slap shots, all of it. So this story definitely caught my eye.

Last weekend a student at Auburn University during their game against Alabama they had a contest where someone had to putt a golf ball the length of the court. This one kid stepped up, grabbed the putter and proceeded to make the full-court PUTT! 94 feet to be exact and he drained it! Crowd goes wild. What a feeling. It was all sponsored by a local Toyota dealership so he won a new car. Which is nice because as a college student he didn’t have a car at all.

Here’s the video of the put

Here’s what it looked like from another angle, and his interview after he won.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When did people start giving chocolate for Valentine’s Day?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: When did people start giving chocolate for Valentine’s Day?

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you eat all the chocolate today. If you’re enjoying those delicious bites of heart shaped chocolatey goodness wondering why we give chocolate for Valentine’s day, I have the answer.

It started when Richard Cadbury, the son of Cadbury founder John Cadbury, decided they needed to fancy up the boxes the sold chocolate in to help sales. He then came up with the first hear-shaped box of chocolates as part of a Valentine’s Day promotion in 1861. They’ve been selling them ever since. Now they estimate more than 36 million heart-shaped boxes are sold every year. Which equals about 58 million pounds of chocolate.

Yum!
