We’ve all been at a game before where they do the silly games with a fan during time outs or halftime to win a car, money, trips. Half court shots, slap shots for hockey, etc… it RARELY ever ends up with the person winning.
Unless you were at this high school basketball game last week in North Dakota. Where a 7th grade student had a chance at $10,000. He had to lit a layup, free throw, 3 pointer, then a half court shot all in a row to win the money. After hitting the first three shots he only had the half court one left… the crowd was getting louder… took the shot, NAILED IT! Won $10 grand. Insane.
He says he’s going to save the money and use it for college. Smart kid!
The 65th Annual Grammy Awards happen this Sunday night February 5th. I figured we would do a Grammy edition Mundane Mystery.
Where did the name “Grammy” come from?
Back at the first Grammy Award ceremony in 1959 they needed an ideas for the gold plated statues they were giving out as the awards. They decided to make it a gold gramophone, which some people refer to as a phonograph or record player. Back then that’s what everyone was listening to music on so it made sense. They shorted the name to “Grammy” and it’s stuck ever since.

Big time Connecticut basketball game this weekend. Two Connecticut schools not named UCONN will be facing off on national TV. Fairfield will take on Quinnipiac Friday night at 7pm on ESPNU and ESPN+ from M&T Bank Arena in Hamden.
Last time these two faced each other last February Quinnipiac got the win. So the Stags will be looking for a little revenge on the national stage.
Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil ruined my spring time hopes this morning by seeing his shadow and predicting 6 more weeks of winter. Ugh. BUT, how accurate is this groundhog anyway?
Not very. “Phil” has been making his predictions since 1886, and he’s actually only been right 39% of the time! That’s under 50%. You could flip a coin and be more accurate. The Groundhog People at Gobbler’s Knob will tell you that he’s never wrong and maybe they just misheard Phil’s “Groundhogese.” language.
More often than not he predicts more winter. He’s seen his shadow 106 times now. Only 19 times has be seen no shadow and predicted an early spring. Which is crazy to me.
So if you were hoping for that nice spring weather coming sooner rather than later you might get your wish based on Phil’s record.
