THE FEED: The Ultimate Connecticut Super Bowl Menu

Every Tuesday Kevin talks all things food with Alex from CT FoodGirly about all things food related in Connecticut. This week we created the ultimate super bowl menu with some of Alex’s go-to spots to pick up all different game-day snacks for the game on Sunday. From pizza to wings, ribs, and tacos. 

ALEX’S PICKS:

Home – Branford – Small & Large Trays of Mac & Cheese. They are putting their own twist on this classic meal and offering Meatball Parm, Buffalo Chicken, and Pulled Pork Mac, so a lot of fun Mac & Cheese options at Home to spice up Sunday night for the game.

Right down the street in Branford is Lennys. Who is offering Uncle Lloyds Baby Back Ribs for the Super Bowl. This offer includes 8 Half Racks with Lenny’s housemade BBQ sauce. I’m a huge rib girl, so I hope to have some Sunday night.

What’s a football game without some wings? One6Three in New Haven is offering 10% off all wing orders and if you buy four large pizzas, you get a free cheese pizza. So two of my favorite things, pizza and wings, definitely look for that Superbowl offer from 163.

I’m going to keep up in New Haven to introduce Camacho Garage’s Superbowl offer – which is there Famila Dinners – which are family style dinners at really great prices too, they are offering pulled pork tacos, chicken, and steak meals too. So if you want some really flavorful tacos, my favorite are the birria, look to Camacho Garage for Sunday’s game.

Lastly, I have Zuppardis Pizza which has locations in West Haven, Ansonia and Derby. For Super Bowl they are offering their Stuffed Breads: Pepperoni, Buffalo Chicken, Spinach, Chicken or Eggplant Parm or even Philly Steak. I would love to get my hands on that philly steak stuffed bread, perfect for an appetizer for Sunday.

Sometimes it’s the littlest things that can change someone’s bad day or put them into a better mood. Like ice cream.

Everyday Sundae is a pretty unique ice cream shop located in Washington D.C. They’re all about making people happy and bringing joy regardless of their financial situation.

The owner Charles Foreman says that everyone walks away with a smile. Everyone who walks in gets a cone. Whether they have money in their pocket or not.

If you don’t have the money to buy ice cream, you can still enjoy a sundae for free. Their mission of generosity and kindness has not only earned the shop a special place in the hearts of D.C. residents but has also attracted people from all over the country with the press they’ve been getting.

Everyday Sundae has started to become a symbol of hope and positivity in the community. They truly believe that by simply enjoying a delicious treat, they are making a positive impact on the world.

Which I 100% believe is true. Who doesn’t love free ice cream?!

If you’ve ever spent time in NYC you’ve no doubt seen the sea of yellow taxis. But why yellow?

Originally when they first started back in 1907 all the taxis in New York were red and green. But they quickly started to realize those colors were blending in with the other vehicles on the road. The solution was to paint them all bright yellow to make it easier for people to see when they needed a ride. Within a few years all the cars were painted that yellow we see today.

Is there a celebrity you used to love but now are slightly embarrassed of?  Anna idolized one pop star so much growing, but after seeing her at the Grammy’s, she is feeling a little freaked out! (21:51)

Harry and Lucy have been dating for two years and Lucy found a box under his bed with old cards and photos of his ex-girlfriend. Harry doesn’t think it’s a big deal, he’s a sentimental guy and that was a good time of his life. He doesn’t have a bad relationship with his ex, he doesn’t have a relationship with her at all but he likes to read some of the nice things she wrote years ago. Is he wrong to still keep these items? (37:43)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut won part of Beyoncé’s Grammy (sort of)

There were a lot of memorable moments at the Grammy’s on Sunday night, including Beyoncé setting the record for most Grammy’s won by any artist.

Her first award of the night (Best R&B Song for Cuff It) she wasn’t even there yet, stuck in that terrible L.A. traffic. So her producer Nile Rodgers accepted the award on her behalf. An award that also had an interesting Connecticut connection.

Nile owns a recording studio in Westport call Le Crib. Parts of Beyoncé’s album Renaissance were recorded there. No one really knows if Beyoncé spent any time here during the recording but the studio is listened in the credits of the album. So we’re counting it. Good Grammy win, Westport!
