TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Finding a shining light in the face of tragedy

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Finding a shining light in the face of tragedy

It’s been 10 years to the day since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. A day that affected so many of us here in Connecticut. But even the face of tragedy can come good and healing.

Over the past 10 years Jenny Hubbard who’s daughter Catherine lost her life that day has created many tributes to her daughter based on her love of animals. The annual Catherine’s Butterfly Party had 10,000 people attended this year. She has also been creating the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary in Newtown. A place for people to spend time connecting with animals and finding peace. Today they broke ground on the build out for the facility.

You can learn more about the foundation and the sanctuary here and if you missed Anna and Raven’s interview with Jenny Wednesday morning you can listen to the podcast below:

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “Hands Down” come from?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the term “Hands Down” come from?

You’ve probably used it more than a few times in your life, “hands down”. Which means without question, definitive, by far, etc… but where did it come from?

Horse racing. When the jockey would have a big enough lead that he could relax his arms and hands from holding the horse and still be ahead by enough to win the race.

Makes sense!

Wherever your pizza allegiance lies… Pepe’s, Sally’s, Modern, or somewhere off Wooster Street, we can all agree there is nothing quite like a New Haven style pie. Our very own pizza lover Kevin Begley got the chance to sit down with Frank from New Haven Pizza School to discuss all things New Haven ah-beetz! And even how you too can make your very own New Haven pizza at home.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Daughter uses her TikTok account to help Mom’s struggling restuarant

A perfect story for #TacoTuesday! A taco shop in the subrubs of Chicago has gone viral in the last week thanks to the daughter of the restaurant’s owner. She posted a video to her TikTok account saying how it breaks her heart to see her Mom watch the door everyday waiting for customers to walk in. And how she wises she could give her customers for Christmas.

@tacoboutjoys

I wish I could give her customers for Christmas

Well, sure enough the clip went viral and people starting sharing the location of the restaurant. Customers started coming in droves to try the food. To the point that the girl and her Mom had to get more family members to come in and help. Since then there have been about 2,000 people leaving reviews on Google mostly 5-stars.

Such a nice story and great for this family and their holiday season.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How much would it cost to buy everything mentioned in the “12 days of Christmas”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How much would it cost to buy everything mentioned in the “12 days of Christmas”?

We’re officially 12 days away from Christmas. Every year the list comes out of so how much it would cost to buy everything mentioned in “The 12 Days of Christmas”. And every year it gets more expensive.

This year’s report just came out. The cost to buy it all would be $45,523, up 10.5% from last year. Thanks, inflation… and if you kept buying the items over and over each day like the lyrics to the song it would be run you about $197,000.

Someone has to do it now right? The French hens would be the hardest to get I would think. Think about the shipping costs alone!
