A Florida police officer named Lou Caputo pulled people over this week in the school zone her works in. But when he came up to the window the people got a festive surprise as he was dressed as The Grinch! He’s been doing it around the holidays for years now so it’s a tradition for the people in that area.
If they were only going 5 mph or less over the limit he would let them choose between a speeding ticket, or an onion. Based on the scene in the Jim Carrey version of The Grinch where he eats a raw onion.
Lou doesn’t make people eat it, but he says he has seen people take a bite anyway.
There’s been a rumor around the holidays that those beautiful red plants we all love this time of year, are poisonous. This is not true. Ohio State University did a research project which showed that a 50-pound child would have to eat more than 500 leaves to have any harmful effect. This is ver unlikely to happen, because apparently the leave have an “awful taste.” they say. I’m not looking to find out either.
Even though they aren’t truly poisonous, they do say you should keep pets from snacking on poinsettia leaves, because it can really upset their stomachs. And no one wants that around the holidays.
