MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do witches ride brooms?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do witches ride brooms?

With Halloween coming up this weekend your bound to see a lot of witch costumes. Some of them riding broomsticks. But why are witches associated with brooms anyway?

The idea of witches and brooms is thought to have started as a fertility ritual. Basically rural farmers would leap and dance around different kinds of poles, pitchforks or brooms at nigh time when there was a full moon to give enough light. They would try to encourage the growth of their crops by doing this.

Then the broom stick concept just stuck ever since with witches in TV, movies, and Halloween costumes.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Shelton gift shop owner sells out of custom mugs raising thousands for Bristol Police Heroes Fund

The owner of a gift shop in Shelton,  Shelton Gift Boutique in Shelton downtown, recently made these very special coffee mugs to honor of the Bristol Police officers who tragically lost their life recently in that horrible attack a few weeks ago.

The shop was selling the mugs for $50 each with all proceeds going to the families of the officers. The mugs sold out in one day raising $2,500 for the Bristol Police Heroes fund! Unbelievable

The owner Bryan Lizotte said he wanted to help out by donating somehow, but since he’s not rich or anything figured this was a good way to do it.

What I love about this is that it not only show what a good heart this store owner has, but also shows the kindness of everyone who bought a mug and sold them out so quickly.

Our love and support go out to the families of all three officers who were involved in that tragedy.
