MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who came up with Taco Tuesday?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who came up with Taco Tuesday?

The stars have finally aligned and let National Taco Day and Taco Tuesday fall on the same day. Very exiting. I plan to eat all the tacos tonight.

But who first came up with the phrase “Taco Tuesday”? There is a bit of drama surrounding it actually.

A taco chain in the Midwest called Taco John’s claims that they first used the term and registered it as a trademark in 1989. Ever since then they have fired off more cease and desist letters than chalupas to anyone who dares to use the phrase. But many people have proved that the term has been used well before Taco John’s started using it.

Enjoy your tacos tonight everyone. Extra guac please!

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Famous Internet Challenge leads to breakthrough in treating well known disease

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Famous Internet Challenge leads to breakthrough in treating well known disease

We all remember doing the ice bucket challenge back in 2014. It was everywhere. Celebrities, athletes, everyone you know showing up in your feed dumping a bucket of ice cold water over their heads and tagging three people they know to do the same. It was a fun creative way to bring awareness to ALS.

Now, years later the FDA has just approved an new drug which was partially funded by money raised from the Ice Bucket Challenge. So that few minutes of freezing cold water over you head is now paying off to help a lot of people.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do the Yankees wear Pinstripes?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do the Yankees wear Pinstripes?

With only a few games left in the regular season all eyes are on the Yankees lately. Even if you’re not a Yankees fan you still are following along to see if Aaron Judge can hit that 62nd home run and break the record. Will he do it?! Who knows.

As I was watching over the weekend I wondered why the Yankees started wearing those now iconic pinstripes on their uniforms? One big rumor is that Babe Ruth requested the look to make him look slimmer on the field and in photos. It doesn’t seem to be the most accurate explanation since as most people point out the team was wearing them since about 1912 well before Ruth played for them. It’s more an element of the style back then in the early 1900s. The Yankees were clearly version fashion forward.
