TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Connecticut restaurant hopes to bring home best buffalo wing trophy

With a few weeks left in summer you can almost feel the football, pumpkins, and fall air around the corner. Which also means eating delicious buffalo wings every weekend in front of the TV. There are A LOT of great wing places here in Connecticut but only one who will compete for the title of “Best Buffalo Wing” in the world.

The Blind Rhino, who you might have been to their SoNo or Black Rock locations, are heading up to Buffalo, NY on Labor Day Weekend to compete in the National Buffalo Wing Festival. As you can imagine this is the super bowl of wings. Literally in the stadium where the Bills play with wing places from all 50 states and over 30 counties competing.

I will say… The Blind Rhino have delicious wings so I like their changes. Good luck!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are most highlighters yellow?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are most highlighters yellow?

If you work in an office doing paperwork you’ve probably used a highlighter at some point today. And it was most likely bright yellow. Why is yellow the go-to color for highlighters?

The reason actually makes a lot of sense. When testing out colors that shade of bright yellow was the only one that didn’t cause a big shadow when making a photo copy.

Happy highlighting.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Lottery winner’s ticket mix-up turns into a cash windfall

We’ve all been there… winning $5 on a scratch ticket and hoping that when you cash it in it’s actually for $5 million and you just read it wrong.

Well something similar happened to this one Seattle couple recently. They bought a lottery ticket and thought they won $360. But when they went to cash it, they were told it was actually for $360,000! Obviously they were pretty shocked and excited at the same time. They said the first thing they did with the money was give their son and daughter-in-law a check for $10,000. They are about to be first time grandparent and wanted to help them out with the expenses that go with it.

Always great to see good people win the lottery.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are they called Soap Operas?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why are they called Soap Operas?

One of the most popular forms of television… Soap Operas. Or watching “your stories”. Been around for decades. Your parents and grandparents I’m sure were obsessed. But why are they called Soap Operas?

The reason comes from way back in the day when they first started it was around World War II era and most of them were only on airing on radio. The TV versions didn’t come until later. All the advertising back then during the programs was coming from soap and detergent companies targeting women. Thus, the name “Soap Opera” was born and has stuck ever since.
