Hot Dog Heaven: CT’s Tastiest Spots to Get Your Frank On

Hot Dog Heaven: CT’s Tastiest Spots to Get Your Frank On

Every Tuesday in The Feed @CTFoodGirly comes on to talk food, dining, and drinks here in Connecticut.

Whether you like yours piled high with mac and cheese, dripping with chili, or simply slathered in classic mustard and relish, we all know that our state has no shortage of tasty hot dog spots. This week CT Food Girly tells us about some of the best places, like the iconic Frankie’s, the legendary Blackie’s, and the all time favorite… Super Duper Weenie. Want a dog with pastrami and Russian dressing? Jake’s Diggity Dogs has you. Craving a side of nostalgia and onion rings? Glenwood Drive-In’s got the goods. Press play on the full audio below and find your next favorite frank!

Frankie’s – Wallingford, Waterbury, Naugatuck, Plainville, West Haven
They’re really known for their hotdogs, they serve them original, or with, chili, peppers and
onions, mushrooms, bacon, nacho cheese, all the good stuff. They have been around since
1937, and I always enjoy going in there for a hot meal. This is where you can quickly get a fresh
burger, hotdog, curly fries, onion rings, and more.

Glenwood Drive-In located in Hamden. Old-fashion spot for great
hotdogs. It’s definitely under the category of high-quality fast food. They have juicy burgers,
freshly made onion rings, lobster rolls, and sometimes I even order a buttery grilled cheese from
here, it just hits the spot. They have been around since 1955, this family run business also has
a daughter named Kelly, who opened up an ice cream parlor, Kelly’s Cone Connection that is
attached to Glenwood and it’s a great location to get your hotdogs and a scoop of ice cream.

Blackie’s Hot Dog Stand- Cheshire
They have been a Connecticut tradition since 1928. They’re all about hot dogs and their famous
homemade hot pepper relish. For their menu, you either are ordering ketchup, brown mustard,
or their famous hot pepper relish as a topping. They’re hotdogs that are actually a custom recipe
made here in New Britain, CT.

Jordan’s Hot Dog & Mac – New Haven
They’re known for their “Mac Dog” which is a hot dog with mac and cheese, bacon, and
jalapeno. They have a bunch of other great specialty hot dogs and a huge section for add-ons. I
saw fried chicken, shaved steak, and buffalo sauce as some add-ons and I bet they’re packed
with flavor on a hot dog.

DogTown in Milford. They started in a food truck and as that truck grew and the menu expanded, they created the “doghouse hot dog joint” in 2017. These dogs are definitely a level up from the classics, their menu offers some amazing specialty dogs like the zephyr with american cheese, chili, hot pepper relish and raw onion, or the yuppie,
with bacon sweet relish, brown mustard, raw onion and sauerkraut. They also have great
burgers, a custom blend, and plenty of sides to order from too like tater tots, chicken tenders,
and chili cheese fries.

Jake’s Diggity Dogs – Milford
If you want an awesome hotdog in the area, Jake’s is the place to go. I have never seen a menu
filled with so many hot dog choices. They offer one dog that is the “Rueben Dog” and it’s topped
with pastrami, swiss cheese, russian dressing, spicy brown mustard and sauerkraut. That is my
dream hot dog.

Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield has been pushing out specialty dogs, fresh cut french fries,
burgers and nuggets for years. Tiny hot dog joint with made-from -scratch toppings and relishes.
Super Duper Weenie has a lot of specialty hot dogs, which is awesome for those that love to
pile on those toppings and flavors. They have a bunch of great condiments too, which are all
made from scratch, so you know they’re super fresh. Their hot dogs are split and grilled and laid
onto a fresh-baked roll with their own homemade relishes and toppings. I’m personally ordering
their New Yorker, which is mustard, sauerkraut, their hot relish and onion sauce

Angie and Ford’s dog was injured while he was out with their dog walker. That led to a $700 vet bill. The worst part is that the dog walker was unclear about what exactly happened to cause the injury. Angie thinks he should be responsible for the bill and wants to present it to him. Her husband, Ford, says that he’s an uninsured 24-year-old that dog walks for extra money. There’s no point in trying to go after him for money. What do you think?
