Going back to the 1920s the term “jay” was a word to call someone an “idiot” or dumb person. So jaywalking by definition means idiot walking.

We’ve all been there before. The worst commute ever. You’re running late, car breaks down, traffic, flat tire, whatever else making you late to work. A day ruiner.
His name is Eric Akers. He lives in Oregon and got some local news attention after walking 33 miles to get to work after his car broke down on his commute. It took him 6 1/2 hours to walk to work. Now that’s dedication to your job. Then he worked a full 8 hour shift once he got there! Sounds awful so far.
But then this couple saw his story on the news and were so impressed by his work ethic that they wanted to help him out by giving him a car they no longer use anymore. Sure, it was a ’97 Honda but it still runs!
The reason they named the stores that was after the original hours of operation. When they first started in 1946 they opened at 7am and closed at 11pm. Then in the 1960s they started staying open 24 hours like it is now, but decided it would be too much of a hassle to change the name because of how popular the stores were.
