TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Airbnb steps up and offers free housing to Ukrainian refugees

What’s happening over in Ukraine and Russia is absolutely heartbreaking. There is nothing “good” about the war itself. But in between the headlines, photos, and footage there are a few bright spots shining through of people helping the innocent everyday civilians in Ukraine.

Airbnb recently announced they will be offering free housing for 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in Eastern Europe. This will give the people a place to stay for at least a few weeks. Which is an amazing gesture from the company.

Let’s hope all this conflict and suffering ends soon, but in the meantime it’s nice to see people stepping up to help out.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the phrase Another Feather In Your Cap come from?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did the phrase Another Feather In Your Cap come from?

You’ve probably see the viral video of the Wheel of Fortune episode recently where the contestants couldn’t solve the puzzle even though there was only a few letters left. If you haven’t, here it is

But where did that phrase “Another Feather In Your Cap” come from? It goes back to the medieval days when knights or warriors would be rewarded for their bravery during battle by getting a feather for their head gear every time they slayed an enemy. Then over the years it caught on as a phrase used for when you get recognized for doing your job or achieving a goal you set out to do.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: LEGO gets creative helping bring smiles to children in hospitals

I love stories that help put smiles on the faces of kids who are in children’s hospitals. And this one is super fun.

The LEGO Foundation has decided to donate 600 LEGO sets of miniature MRI machines to children’s hospitals around the world.  Let’s face it, getting an MRI can be scary even for adults. So imagine how tough it is for little kids. Sending out these LEGO sets is a a fun way to make them less nervous about it all.

Great idea!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it called Fat Tuesday?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it called Fat Tuesday?

Today is March 1st. It’s also Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday! But why do we call it that?

Traditionally Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. Which is the start of Lent in western religions like Roman Catholic and Protestant. The idea was that people would eat all the meat and fatty foods they could on that day since they won’t be able to for the next few weeks once Lent starts. Hence the name… Fat Tuesday!

It is also Mardi Gras down in New Orleans. This year is the first time in 2 years (because of the pandemic) that they’ve been able to party in the streets with the real parade.

Cheers!
