TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: 7-year-old hockey fan battling severe disease gets incredible surprise from Make-A-Wish

The Make-A-Wish foundation does extraordinary things for children all over the country, even here in Connecticut. Putting smiles on faces all the time. This story is out of Michigan.

A seven year old boy named Keegan Williams has been ice skating since he was three.  Sadly he hasn’t been able to do it as much lately since he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018.  So Make-A-Wish got to work and did something really cool for him.

They showed up at Keegan’s house and built him a little hockey rink in his backyard. The surprise reveal was last Friday. They even arranged for the mascot of the local hockey team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, to play goalie so he could hit a few shots.

But the best news of all is that Keegan is getting well and should finish his cancer treatments in April! Keep skating and shooting those slapshots Keegan we’re all pulling for you.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do dogs have tails?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why do dogs have tails?

If you’re a dog owner this seems like an obvious thing we see every day and never think about. Your dog’s tail. Why do they have them?

The tail on a dog helps them maintain his balance. They putt weight on the opposite side of the dog’s tilt. Think of it like a tightrope walker who uses the balance bar to stay on the tightrope.

Dogs that are a bit more adventurous and like climbing or exploring will use the tails to balance on uneven surfaces like rocks or sticks. It helps their footing.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Former Uber Driver is riding his bike to every state capital for a great cause

Sometimes you decided to drop everything and set out on a once in a life time adventure.

Like this former Uber Driver from Syracuse, NY named Bob Barnes. He is currently trying to get people to donate blood by riding his bike to all 50 state capitals in a single year.

He started riding this past August, and he’s made it to 26 so far!! Pretty impressive.  He’s on pace to complete the entire journey. The big question a lot of people have is how will he do Alaska and Hawaii? Don’t worry, he has a plan for both. He will take a ferry to Alaska. Then fly to Hawaii as the last state to bike into Honolulu.

We’re cheering for you Bob. If you want to support him or donate blood for the cause here is the link to his story.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long have they been having the Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsatawney, PA?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long have they been having the Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsatawney, PA?

Today is Groundhog Day! Sadly Phil saw his shadow which means 6 more weeks of winter. Groundhog Day is one of the best random days of the year. But when did it all start?

The first one was way back in 1887 at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsatawney, PA. Prior to 1993, the Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney was kind of small and only attracted crowds of about 2,000 people.  Then when the movie “Groundhog Day” came out with Bill Murray, the celebration blew up and made it much more popular. Since then the crowds are now between 10,000 and 20,000. With the exception of last year, when it was closed off due to the ongoing pandemic.

This year the big crowds seemed to be back.

One of these years I’m going. In 2024 it’s a Friday. Maybe then.
