MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why is it called the “Super Bowl”?

It wasn’t always called the Super Bowl.  At first they tried out difference names like “The Big One” and “The Pro Bowl” then the league ultimately decided on the “AFL-NFL World Championship Game”.

Then the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs,  Lamar Hunt, came up with the name “Super Bowl”, after seeing his kids play with a Super Ball.

Fans and the media instantly loved the new name but the NFL Commissioner at the time hated it.

It took until Super Bowl 3 in 1969 to officially change the name of the game to Super Bowl.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Guys who have attended every Super Bowl plan to continue tradition this weekend

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Guys who have attended every Super Bowl plan to continue tradition this weekend

I love a great tradition amongst friends. You might remember these guys from a Super Bowl ad that ran during the game back in 2010. They were known as the “Never Miss a Super Bowl Club” in the ad.

They have been to every Super Bowl since 1967. Never missed one, ever. And they plan to attend this year’s game on Sunday in Los Angeles to keep the tradition alive.

There are three surviving members from their original crew and they’re all in their 80s now. This Sunday could be the last year they all go together since one of the guys is 85 and says he probably won’t go next year. They hope at least one of them will attend until 2026 which would be Super Bowl 60 and tie a nice bow on their streak.

Good luck fellas!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who came up with the idea for the Polaroid camera?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Who came up with the idea for the Polaroid camera?

Polaroid cameras were all the rage for decades. Get the photo immediately after you snap it? What a concept! Of course now with the invention of smartphones and digital cameras the entire photo world has be turned upside down.

But who first thought of the idea to invent the Polaroid camera and why?

A man named Edwin Land was inspired to create the Polaroid camera back in 1943. At the time his three-year-old daughter would always complain about how long she would have to wait to see a photo after taking it. Instead of hearing her say “I don’t want to wait” every time she took a photo, he invented the Polaroid camera concept. Which even now has kind of a retro popularity among young kids.
