Thursday February 3, 2022: Kiss in Front Of Your Parents; Russian Rooster; Unsolicited Advice

Are you a grammar snob?  Anna has always been very particular about grammar, but she recently noticed something shocking that may change that!  (:30)

What would you do for 100k?  An NFL coach was allegedly offered 100k to throw a game, and it made Anna wonder what Raven would do for that much money?  (3:01)

Tradition is one thing, but if you get your weather forecasts from a forest creature, that’s all I need to know about you!  (6:49)

Anna’s got three crazy news stories and Raven’s gonna pick one to go into detail on!  Today his options are; a man possessed by a Nascar legend, a secret agent chicken, and a 40 person brawl at the Golden Corral  (10:05)

What’s your spirit animal?  Anna had never thought about it before, until a recent news segment opened her mind to the possibilities!  (13:21)

What’s the last piece of unsolicited advice you’ve ever received?  Anna has been recovering from knee surgery and you won’t believe the outlandish pieces of advice she’s received!  (17:02)

Gas prices keep rising, so Anna and Raven want to do something to help out!  Play Craig’s List Price is Right!  If you can guess the price of a crazy item on Craig’s list, Anna and Raven will give you a free gas card!  (24:22)

Is there ever an appropriate age to kiss your partner in front of your parents?  Anna has been with her husband for almost 20 years but her parents have only seen them kiss once!  (27:27)

Zoe and Jake have called off their engagement, but they did have an engagement party a few months ago. Zoe is pushing for them to give back all the money that they collected as gifts from the guests. Jake refuses and says that the money has been spent, plus, they paid for the engagement party with that cash! What do you think? Should they return the monetary gifts now that the wedding has been called off? It’s $2300!  (34:11)

Linda has a shot at $200!  Can she beat Raven in pop culture trivia and claim the prize?  (42:30)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Former Uber Driver is riding his bike to every state capital for a great cause

Sometimes you decided to drop everything and set out on a once in a life time adventure.

Like this former Uber Driver from Syracuse, NY named Bob Barnes. He is currently trying to get people to donate blood by riding his bike to all 50 state capitals in a single year.

He started riding this past August, and he’s made it to 26 so far!! Pretty impressive.  He’s on pace to complete the entire journey. The big question a lot of people have is how will he do Alaska and Hawaii? Don’t worry, he has a plan for both. He will take a ferry to Alaska. Then fly to Hawaii as the last state to bike into Honolulu.

We’re cheering for you Bob. If you want to support him or donate blood for the cause here is the link to his story.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long have they been having the Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsatawney, PA?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: How long have they been having the Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsatawney, PA?

Today is Groundhog Day! Sadly Phil saw his shadow which means 6 more weeks of winter. Groundhog Day is one of the best random days of the year. But when did it all start?

The first one was way back in 1887 at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsatawney, PA. Prior to 1993, the Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney was kind of small and only attracted crowds of about 2,000 people.  Then when the movie “Groundhog Day” came out with Bill Murray, the celebration blew up and made it much more popular. Since then the crowds are now between 10,000 and 20,000. With the exception of last year, when it was closed off due to the ongoing pandemic.

This year the big crowds seemed to be back.

One of these years I’m going. In 2024 it’s a Friday. Maybe then.

Raven’s Secret Menu Item

Raven’s Secret Menu Item

Raven sent the producers out to see if McDonald’s would have his own made-up secret menu item…Spoiler alert, they did not. But it didn’t stop them from making it anyways! How did Raven’s El Diablo Double Chicken sandwich end up tasting?

Wellness Wednesday: Sleep Like it’s 1600

If you can never seem to get that elusive “7-9” hours of sleep a night, it’s probably not your fault. The truth is that the lightbulb changed the way humans sleep and if you are only clocking in four or five hours, it’s because you’re old school-and it may be better for you. Catch up with the Wellness Wednesday podcast.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: If you’re not making the 6 hour drive to Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day here’s how you can celebrate in CT

I have always wanted to make the big 6-hour drive from Connecticut to Punxsutawney, PA to Gobbler’s Knob and witness Phil coming out to see his shadow live. The problem is it’s always a weekday. 2024 it’s a Friday and the next time it falls on a Saturday is 2030. So maybe one of those years I’ll go!

But in the meantime here is where you can celebrate Groundhog Day in Connecticut tomorrow:

Connecticut’s groundhog, Chuckles XI, will be making its 2022 prediction from the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester starting at 6:30 a.m. You can watch it livestreamed on the museum’s Facebook page. The museum will also be open later in the day if you want to celebrate the groundhog.

Also, Lyman Orchards in Middlefield will be hosting a Groundhog Day Storytime event for kids and families at 3:30 p.m.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What are the rules for the groundhog’s shadow?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What are the rules for the groundhog’s shadow?

Tomorrow (February 2nd) is Groundhog Day. One of my favorite days of the year. Around 7:15am tomorrow morning revelers will gather around Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, PA  to see if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not. You can watch live here.

Every year people are confused over the shadow and what it means for more winter or early spring.

According to the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition for decades now…  if the groundhog sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks. BUT… Phil does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.

Let’s go NO SHADOW! Need that early spring.
