TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Two cops make a winter rescue pulling dog from frozen lake

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Two cops make a winter rescue pulling dog from frozen lake

We are getting into that time of year when the lakes and ponds freeze over for the winter. Always fun to skate, play, and slide on them. As long as you take precaution and be VERY careful for your safety.

Luckily for this poor dog in Spain recently there were two cops nearby when he feel into the broken ice. They both dove into the freezing-cold lake to save the dog.  Someone nearby got it all on video too! Incredible. Glad the pup is home safe.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did “eggnog” get its name?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Where did “eggnog” get its name?

One of the most festive drinks this time of year… delicious eggnog. But where did that silly name come from?

Eggnog is a beverage that originated back in medieval Britain times. They would make it as a hot, milky, ale-like drink made with egg and figs. Legend has it that the “nog” comes from “noggin,” meaning a wooden cup they would serve it in, or “grog,” which was the name for a strong beer or rum which they would add to the drink.

By the late 18th century, the combined term “eggnog” stuck and spread around the world as the go-to name.

I may have to pour an eggnog this weekend in a wooden noggin’!

Friday, December 9, 2021: Teacher Tipping; Anna’s Wedding Speech, Raven’s Report Card

Friday, December 9, 2021: Teacher Tipping; Anna’s Wedding Speech, Raven’s Report Card

Santa is coming to town this weekend!  Not really, but a lot of drunk adults will be dressed as Santa all over the country!  (:30)

Every Friday, Raven’s wife Alicia calls in to give him a grade on how he did as a husband that week!  Raven was doing well this week, but his habit of taking frequent naps might have gotten him in trouble!  (2:43)

Anna’s bosses have commented that she sometimes has a problem staying awake.  So, this week she has decided to do something about it!  Yesterday, Raven tried to use music to keep Anna alert, but it seems like he picked the wrong songs…  (6:42)

Cookie exchanges are very common in a lot of offices this holiday season, so if you go to the cookie exchange with store-bought stuff, that’s all I need to know about you!  And that’s exactly what happened in Anna and Raven’s office…  (10:23)

Can you give teachers a cash tip?  Gift cards are a common gift for your kid’s teacher, but Anna is wondering if she can just skip a few steps and just give them money!  (14:20)

Anna messed up.  She’s the matron of honor at her best friend’s wedding tomorrow, but she forgot one key detail… (20:15)

The Santa Tipline has returned!  Call 833-431-0905 and leave Santa a voicemail about who has been naughty and who has been nice.  Anna and Raven will play the funniest messages on the air!  (27:25)

Do you know how to pronounce Cheugy?  It’s apparently one of the most mispronounced words of 2021, so Anna asked around the office to see who could pronounce that word and a few others!  (30:09)

Charlie is sick of wasting money on Christmas cards and has come up with an idea. On this year’s card, they will write that this is their last year sending cards because of the unreliability of the post office and high costs. His wife, Meghan, says that sounds obnoxious. He argues that it sets a precedent for next year and they won’t get them and feel guilty. Whose side are you on? (34:09)

Tina has got a shot at $2300!  Can she defeat Raven in pop culture trivia and win the prize?  (42:20)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Family loses home before Christmas, gets helps from unlikely source

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Family loses home before Christmas, gets helps from unlikely source

Nobody should be without a home during the holiday season. This story shows how nice some people can be to people the barely know.

A woman who was working at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Cincinnati was recently evicted from her home. She’s a mother of 3 kids so this was especially hard on the whole family. Then one of her regular customers who comes in to that Dunkin’ every day found out about her situation. After working together with several groups in the community they were able to get the family a new apartment just in time for Christmas.  They also furnished the whole thing for them. How great is that?!

Now that they have a fully furnished home, her and the kids couldn’t be more thankful to be enjoying a Merry Christmas this year…. at home.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What exactly is “figgy pudding”?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What exactly is “figgy pudding”?

It’s that time of year, we’ve all heard the song “please bring us some figgy pudding… please bring us some figgy pudding…” but what exactly is figgy pudding? Would I even want it?

It actually does sound kind of tasty. It’s a rich boiled pudding cake made with flour, suet, figs, and other dried fruit. Some people put rum or brandy in it too.

Here’s a guy making it… looks easy to bake too. Maybe this is the year I try it out!
