TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: How a very nice group of trick-or-treaters handled a house with no candy

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: How a very nice group of trick-or-treaters handled a house with no candy

Obviously the tradition on Halloween if someone doesn’t have any “treats” is to play a “trick” on them. It’s right there in the name “Trick or Treat”. But this group of trick-or-treaters in the U.K. did something completely different.

They walked up to the front door of an 86-year-old woman who apologized because she didn’t have any candy.  But she was really nice to them so instead of doing something cruel to her house they came back later and gave HER some candy.  They also gave her a Happy Halloween card and all signed it.  So thoughtful!

Now the woman and her family are trying to track down the kids to give them each a gift and say thanks.

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: What is the plural term for ‘Octopus’?

This might be the most random mystery I’ve done yet. What is the correct plural word for octopus?

Technically the term is “octopodes,”. More common in everyday conversation are obviously octopuses and octopi. But I like octopodes. It has a great ring to it.

Thursday November 4, 2021: Was Anna Zap Out of Line; Goop Gift List; Oddly Attractive

What do you sleep in at night?  According to science, there’s a specific way to go to bed at night to maximize health benefits, and neither Anna or Raven are doing it!  (:15)

What odd thing do you find attractive in another person?  It could be something you wear, a type of jewelry, or even how someone talks.  One caller is particularly attracted to something called a “decolletage”!  (2:45)

Anna has got three crazy news stories, and Raven is gonna pick one to get the details on, but this week there’s a theme!  All three stories are about thieves who failed in spectacular fashion!  (10:10)

Nobody wants to be called out for being a jerk in a viral video, but if you act like you own the road until you suddenly realize you’re on camera, that’s all I need to know about you!  (12:48)

The COVID vaccine has been approved for kid’s 5-11 and the CDC has some suggestions for preparing your kids for the shot.  But Anna has some serious issue with the #1 recommendation that doctors suggest!  (15:43)

Is Anna Zap out of line?  Over the weekend, Anna ran into a friend she hadn’t seen in a long time and gave her a compliment on her appearance.  But after seeing her friend’s reaction, Anna is worried she might have said the wrong thing!  (19:31)

How old is “old”?  The UN has agreed that 65 is officially considered old, but Anna and Raven asked some kids what they thought and the answers were dramatically different!  (27:05)

Every year, Oprah releases a list of her favorite things for the holiday season, and it can be a great resource for finding good gifts!  This year though, Gwyneth Paltrow did the same thing through her company Goop and it’s exactly what you think it is…  (30:10)

Where do you keep your butter?  Aaron’s mom always kept the butter out so that it stayed soft, but now his wife Carolina prefers to keep it refrigerated.  The problem is that Aaron’s mom always leaves it out when she comes over even though Carolina has asked her not to! Aaron says it’s no big deal and Carolina should just let it go.  Whose side are you on?  (34:08)

Allison thinks she’s got what it takes to beat Raven in pop culture trivia!  Can she succeed and win the $800 jackpot?  (41:33)

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: An idea 10 years in the making is putting smiles on faces

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: An idea 10 years in the making is putting smiles on faces

These days the smallest little things can sometimes brighten your day or make you smile. The effort that goes into some of these ideas is amazing.

Like this guy in Oregon who owns a lumber company. He planted a group of tress 10 years ago in a very specific pattern. A smiley face. The trees were strategically planted in an area covered with evergreens. The trees that were planted have needles that turn yellow which makes the smiley face really pop. It’s about 300 feet wide so anyway driving by the highway can see it.

Here’s a video to see what it looks like. So awesome!

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why did they name it Sesame Street?

MUNDANE MYSTERIES: Why did they name it Sesame Street?

If you have toddlers in the house you’ve probably seen a countless number of Sesame Street episodes. But where did the name come from?

It’s pretty simple actually. After searching for a catchy name for the show one of the writers in the show’s writer’s room suggested “Sesame” based on the famous saying “Open, Sesame!” which feels welcoming like you’re about to do something exciting or go on an adventure. Everyone loved it and the rest is history.

Some named that were rejected… The Video Classroom, 1-2-3 Avenue B, and Fun Street. I don’t hate Fun Street but I’m happy they went with Sesame.
